Advertising CSP 3: Represent NHS Blood campaign

 1) What does BAME stand for?

black,asian,minority and ethnic


2) Why is there a need for blood in the BAME community? 

some have rare blood types so other people with that blood type can save others

3) What does this advert want people to do once they've seen it (the 'call to action')?

they want them to donate blood and save lives

4) Why is the advert called 'Represent'?

they are representing ethnic groups and encouraging them to donate blood.



5) Why have the producers chosen famous BAME celebrities to feature in the advert? Give an example of three well-known people who appear in the advert and why they are famous - make sure you write their names and spell them accurately.

So it attracts other ethnic groups.
Lady leshurr is a  english,singer,songwriter and producer she is famous for her queens speech,series of freestyles,the fourth of which became popular in 2016
Kanya king, CBE is a british entrepreneur who is the founder of MOBO awards
Nicola adams is a black female former professional boxer

6) What are the connotations of the slow-paced long shot of empty chairs at the end of the advert?
to make the audience reflect on the meaning of the advert and realise that people need their help and to also feel sympathy


7) How does the advert match the key conventions of a typical urban music video?
it has a urban setting to show that different people from different backgrounds can be part of the solution and can help

8) How does the advert subvert stereotypes? Give three examples (e.g. ethnicity, masculinity, femininity, age, class, disability/ability etc.)

9) How does the advert reinforce certain stereotypes of the BAME community? Could there be an oppositional reading where some audiences would find this advert offensive or reinforcing negative stereotypes?
Race: The idea that 'black people are for entertaining the white' is reinforced as many of the celebrities shown are sport players or musicians.

0:43 of the making of the advert shows ade adepitan he has dreadlocks to show that he is in touch with his roots and his culture and as he is playing wheelchair basketball shows he is dedicated and wont give up
